Check the parcel, not just the item

Hoobuy Shipping Weight Guide for Spreadsheet Finds

A row may show 900 g, but that number means little until you know whether the box and protective packing are included.

Planning a parcel is different from tracking one

If you have not ordered yet, you need an estimate based on weight, dimensions, destination and packing. If the parcel already exists, use the official account or carrier page for its tracking number and latest scan.

This page helps compare spreadsheet rows before an order. It cannot calculate a final charge or see a real parcel.

Know which weight you are looking at

Item weight

The product itself before outer packaging. A spreadsheet may show this, but the label should say so.

Packed weight

The item plus protective material and packaging. This is usually more useful for comparison.

Volumetric size

A large, light parcel may be charged by space rather than scale weight, depending on the service.

Estimate

A planning number based on incomplete information. It should never be presented as a final quote.

Why shipping weight changes the decision

Two similar rows can have different materials, boxes or packing volume. The lighter-looking bargain may not remain the better value after packaging. Spreadsheet browsing is more honest when weight appears beside photos, sizing and price context.

Compare uncertainty, not only grams

A precise-looking number with no explanation can be less useful than a reasonable range that clearly states whether packaging is included.

A practical estimate workflow

  1. Identify the category. Shoes, structured bags and layered outerwear often need different packaging assumptions.
  2. Find the meaning of the number. Ask whether the row shows item weight, packed weight or a rough estimate.
  3. Consider shape. Large boxes and rigid items can create a volume question even when scale weight looks modest.
  4. Compare two scenarios. Record a lighter case and a packaging-heavy case instead of relying on one perfect-looking value.
  5. Confirm through the official service. Current routes, methods and charges belong to the provider, not this guide.

Category questions worth recording

CategoryWeight questionVolume questionUseful note
ShoesDoes the estimate include the box?Can rigid packaging increase parcel size?Record boxed and unboxed assumptions separately.
HoodiesIs the fabric unusually heavy? Can it compress safely?Compare similar fabric weights, not only titles.
JacketsAre lining and insulation included? How bulky is the folded item?A light but bulky layer may still need attention.
BagsIs the stated weight empty? Will the shape be protected?Dimensions matter beside scale weight.
ElectronicsWhat accessories are packed? Are there carrier restrictions?Confirm current rules through official channels.

Items that deserve extra room in the estimate

Footwear with boxes, structured bags, heavy hoodies and layered jackets can add more mass or volume than a thumbnail suggests. Electronics may also have carrier or handling restrictions. Treat these as reminders to check, not fixed pricing rules.

Using a shipping calculator

Enter packed weight and dimensions when you have them. If you only know the item weight, run a lighter case and a packaging-heavy case rather than pretending one number is exact. Save the date of the estimate because service options and prices can change.

Why the final charge may differ

Packing, consolidation, parcel dimensions, service choice and current provider rules all affect the result. A weight copied from an older row may describe the item alone. Confirm what is included before comparing two finds.

For tracking or a delayed parcel

Open the current platform or carrier page. Only they can see account details, tracking events and service-specific charges.
